Larry dropped in at the Super Chevy event April 19th at Memphis Motorsports Park, and was surprised to see old adversary Hayden Proffitt in the house. Hayden was on hand to wring out his Nationals winning Cone Chevrolet stock eliminator racer, freshly re-done by the guys at Harold's Hot Rod Shop in Enid Oklahoma.

Hayden drove many manufacturers cars in many different classes throughout his long career as a driver. Like Larry, he was in on the ground floor during the evolution of the funny car, and was an early adopter of Chevrolet nitro power with a Corvair funny car. He later moved on to race unique AMC Rebel and Javelin floppers. However, it was this Chevrolet stocker that carried Hayden to a NHRA Nationals win in 1962. No small feat regardless of class entered.

Larry and Hayden wrecked some hot dogs and traded war stories from the old days during the down time. Next time, we may need to find Larry's old Tom Sturm Mercury Comet to see who gets to leave with bragging rights!
